LOTS OF NEWS

Solar Poster

i'm back from sweden and although i didn't sign the hives we are pleased to announce two almost! equal additions to the motive sounds roster. with a total of 10 members, oxford's vertical montanas comprise of every member of youthmovie soundtrack strategies and jonquil. two tracks have been recorded for a 7" which will be released in september. you can listen to both at www.myspace.com/verticalmontanasband.

ned is our second foreigner to the ranks. hailing from lyon, france they are a crazy mix of noisepunk, swampy blues, and math rock. the band are about to enter the studio to re-record 'the message' which can be heard on www.myspace.com/nedskrecords, then straight after, they head out on the road to tour america. so if you get the chance to go see them, do. we're hoping to get this 7" out sometime in october/november.

in other news, skoud's 'system 28' featured on the 'lost systems' ep has been used for a short animated film, titled 'solar'. the animated film by graduate creatives ian wharton and edward shires won best animation at this year's escape exhibition for multimedia design and digital animation. aka it's really good. visit www.solarthefilm.com or youtube to have a peep.
for a short time only we're offering the 'lost systems' ep at just £5, reduced from £7, so grab one before they become a mythological ebay find…

the new manatees self released ep; 'we are going to track down and kill vintage claytahh, the beard burning bastard' is now available to buy from the online store. it's hand-made and very limited to 500 copies, so don't leave it too late, it even features vocals from oxbow's eugene robinson. and if that isn't enough, you can now also get manatees t-shirts!

the debut album with the other really long name is to be released on vinyl by eyes of sound. the 'tees have recorded an extra track for the album which is yet to have a confirmed release date. the album, in cd format, will also be coming out on level plane records in the u.s.a sometime in the very near future.
the artwork for 'untitled' or as others call it, 'the forever ending jitter quest of slowhand chuckle walker: an introduction to the manatee' is featured in a new book , titled 'supersonic - visuals for music', along with a poster for a capulet/Mt. gig. the book presents over 300 pages of today’s best-designed cd covers, record sleeves and concert posters. for more info, click here.

and finally motive sounds will be getting a make-over in the next few weeks thanks to the collaborative efforts of robert holmkvist and adam tickle. keep em' peeled!

i'm spent.

DAZED & CONFUSED

Dazed and Confused Magazine - July 2007 - Cover

motive sounds is the featured label in july's issue of dazed and confused magazine which is out now. 'big up' to 'norven kane' for making it happen.

here's hoping that maggie gyllenhaal flicks through the magazine, finds our little label, checks us out, sees me, sends me an e-mail and says hi to ben too, just to be polite though, we meet up, get along like a house on fire, swap numbers, go on dates, fall in love, she bakes me cookies, get each others names tattooed on our arms, buy a house, have a shit load of in-jokes, go on holidays, spend sundays watching prison break, get married, have kids, hang out with uncle jake and live happily ever after.

HOORAY! SAY THE ROSES
24.05.2007

firstly we'd like to welcome hooray! say the roses to the motive sounds family, next we'd like to announce their departure. the multi-instrumental six piece based in leeds formed in 2005 and broke our hearts last when when they told us they were calling it a day, sadly, before we could release the 10" single of 'femme au foyer'.
members of hooray! say the roses are working with a new 'project'; held by hands, click here for a listen and please still check out hooray! say the roses (here) as we think it's music you need to hear. r.i.p.

35 DAYS OF NEWS
02.05.2007

the debut, self titled album from let airplanes circle overhead, recorded when they were just 16/17 has now sold out. you might be lucky to find a copy in a shop somewhere or see one crop up on ebay, otherwise you'll have to settle for itunes.
that's not all, for the first time in 4 years the band have gone back in the studio to record new material which they will be touring in august. you can read about it on their myspace blog by clicking here.

in other news, laura has decided to leave Mt.. the following is a message posted on the band's web site;
"it is with regret that i announce laura's departure from Mt. after many years working together we have reached various conclusions, and now go our separate ways.
the new album is still very much under construction though, and laura is continuing to contribute to it's completion. we have been working with various collaborators on this release, and i will continue to do so, hopefully creating our best album to date in the process.
Mt. will continue to exist as my project, and i will work with as many people as i can to explore it's potential to the full. i am also engaged in the creation of a new project, but for now, news of that can wait.
all for now,
ben".

details of the manatees and bossk tour in june will be announce in the next couple of weeks aswell as news about the new record and it's imminent release.

there's going to be a lot! of big changes in the next few months so keep checking back to find out what they are. sorry we've put prices up on cd's, resonance, who host our online store have had to up the fees to stay afloat of the murky waters that are cyberspace.

...HAPPENINGS
07.03.2007

capulet got a mention on steve lamaq’s radio1 show last week (27th feb 2006) in a feature on preston. If you head over to www.bbc.co.uk/radio1 you should be able to hear it again.

stock has been flying off the e-shelves of resonance and a few releases recently sold out. we’ve sent replacement stock so if you tried to order something and it was sold out try again in a day or two.

manatees and Mt. have both been in the studio these last few weeks so keep checking your inbox for updates on future releases.

our good friend barry smith of create and consume and maker of the motivesounds compilation, epone (ctrlaltdelete), systems and drafts (skoud) and the world is a tragic place… (capulet) has launched a web site for tee shirts that he makes from time to time. take a look at www.createandconsume.co.uk and get on the mailinglist as he's about to do a short run of a new design.

POST-JANUARY SALE
01.02.2007

from today, we have dropped the prices of some of our releases. think of it as a late january sale. you can now grab skoud ‘systems & drafts’, capulet ‘the world…’ and let airplanes circle overhead ‘s/t’ for £2.99 each, whilst ctrlaltdelete ‘mondegreens’ has dropped to £3.49 and skoud ‘lost systems’ can be acquired for a modest £6.99. we are gearing up for the 2007’s releases, and in order to shift the last few of our earlier releases, we are now offering them at these new prices. these are all limited edition, and once we have sold out there will be no reprints. you could get three albums for the price of one normal one (including postage!), which, of course, we highly recommend you consider…
